Camo & Krooked

Coming out of Vienna Austria, Reinhard Rietsch and Markus Wagner are the epic duo that make up Camo and Krooked. Both of these guys started producing music back in 2002, but first began collaborating together in 2007 after Wagner approached Rietsch at one of his shows.  In 2010 they inevitably signed with the drum and bass dream team that is Hospital Records.  I believe my very first post was on these guys, however, that was at a time when I really had no idea what i was doing.  Not that I do now, but at least I can give that initial post some justice.  These guys popped onto my radar when they came out with that SSX snowboarding game earlier this year.  They made quite a few tracks for the game and ever since I have been raging their music. I was lucky enough to see them live at EDC Las Vegas and they were hands down my favorite set of that whole festival (here is a clip from their set).  Remixing songs they had never released such as ACDC‘s “Thunderstruck” and remixing their most popular songs as well, they kept the crowd raging and I almost died of exhaustion after their set (it was the 4th drum and bass set of the night).  If they ever come back to the states remember to hit them up as it is a rare occasion.  They have so many tracks that I love, it was very difficult to narrow it down. I selected an awesome lego music video from their homepage and was also able to find a small preview of that ACDC bootleg I mentioned previously.  If you enjoy the songs I posted below, be sure to check out their soundcloud and their youtube as all their work is damn good!

High Contrast

Lincoln Barrett is a drum and bass mastermind coming out of Wales.  First getting excited about music through movie soundtracks, Mr. Barrett cites the soundtracks of Blade Runner and A Clockwork Orange as defining musical influences.  At age 17 he was first turned onto drum and bass working at Catapult, Cardiff’s only electronic record shop.  Shortly after, he was playing alongside London Elektricity and Grooverider as the DJ resident of Cardiff’s drum and bass night, called Silent Running. In 2002 High Contrast came out with his debut album, titled “True Colours” released on his current label Hospital Records.  Most recently, High Contrast produced and selected much of the music for the Athletes Parade at the 2012 Summer Olympics opening ceremony.  Half a dozen tracks by High Contrast were played and are in the official soundtrack “Isles of Wonder”.  Mr. Barrett has worked hard from the ground up and has become one of the best and most influential drum and bass artists of our time.  I was able to see him play at Cervantes and once again at EDC Las Vegas this year, both of which were amazing! If he comes to your town be sure to go to his show, he will not disappoint. Also be sure to hit up EDC Vegas next year as they bring in some epic talent.  I won’t delve too deeply into any of his tracks as he has so many good ones!  There is no possible way I can post all of my favorites, there are simply too many. So here are a few and be sure to check out any of his work as everything this man produces is GOLD!

Fred V & Grafix

Josh Jackson and Fred Vahrman are the fresh meat over at Hospital Records.  Recently signing, these two young producers have been working closely together for many years now and go by stage names Fred V and Grafix.  They hail from Exeter, Britain and were not initially into drum and bass. However, after listening to High Contrast‘s “High Society” and Pendulum‘s “Hold Your Colour” albums they quickly became converts.  Now the duo is producing some of the hottest liquid drum and bass to come out of Hospital Records since Netsky‘s new album.  “One of These Days” was one of their first big hits that initiated their claim to fame followed by their remix of Madeon’s “Icarus”, which is one of their newest releases on soundcloud.  Three more of my favorites from youtube, all of which demonstrate this duo’s production skills, showing massive potential!
