Guest post of the week thanks to Jay!
Known to very few people just last year, Deniz Koyu has blown up in 2012; you’d be hard pressed to go to an EDM festival these days and not hear his songs blasting. Born in German to Turkish parents, he first got into house music in his late teens and shuffled through a few sub genres before finally settling on progressive house. In 2010 he signed to Fedde Le Grand’s Flamingo Records and hasn’t looked back since. His single Tung! is, by his own admission, a very simple beat he threw together quickly with limited aspirations of it going anywhere. Today however, you’d be super unlucky to find a mainstream house DJ not play at least part of it in his set – the song is FILTHY and gets everyone bouncing.
But making bangers is far from his only M.O. His most recent single Follow You has a steady house beat featuring awesome vocals laid down by Wynter Gordon, all leading up to some heavy drops. The song is already getting a lot of plays at festivals this fall, and I’d be surprised to not hear it much more in the coming months. He also has a knack for making some bumpin remixes of well known songs, one of the best being his take on Akon and Flo Rida’s Who Dat Girl. He keeps the original, and wildly popular, soul of the vocals but kick the beat up to make this a song you can blast at your next dance party and get everyone moving.
And lastly, just incase you’re like me and occasionally (actually more like daily) need a wakeup call at work, put on his hour long mix from July. It’ll have you moving in your cubicle in no time.
